Simply put, one of the most astounding pieces of documentary filmmaking in many, many years. THE ACT OF KILLING tackles the nature of evil head on by enlisting the leaders of an Indonesian death squad to tell their own stories. Though responsible for the murder of thousands, the subjects of this film seem unimpacted by their crimes – even proud of their accomplishments – and gamely participate in amateurishly gruesome reenactments. This is a must-see film, especially the mind-boggling final scene. Includes an introduction recorded by director Joshua Oppenheimer.
